STORM Adventure Racing Race as a team of 3 or solo

STORM The North Shore

2005 Race is Cancelled (original race date: October 15, 2005)

The 6th annual STORM the North Shore Adventure Race has been scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2005. Don't forget, even the novice teams have an orienteering section (this was new last year). Also, there is an awesome new category Mini-STORM and a corporate challenge division - so we invite corporate teams to join the training and racing components of the STORM the North Shore Adventure Race!

3 NEW CHANGES for 2005!

  1. Mini-STORM: This year we are launching the Mini-STORM for true beginner adventure enthusiasts. The Mini-STORM will be a shorter race combining mountain biking and trail running and awesome team mystery challenges, and allows more youth, families, adults, and corporate groups who are less extreme to compete in the race. It will be loads of fun in a shorter and quicker race format that will start and finish at the Capilano College start/finish line.

  2. Solo Intermediates: For 2005 we are also adding an additional category - solo intermediates, so for those people who like to just race alone, you no longer have to try and compete in the extreme elite category - come out and enjoy the intermediate course option instead!

  3. Changes to 2004 race route: Distances and length for novice, intermediate categories. In 2004 we received great feedback about our new course routes. Racers had a great time but felt that it was too long, especially near the end. For 2005 we are shortening both the mountain biking portion and the final run loop. We hope you will like it!

Race Details

The race will start and finish at Capilano College on the North Shore and will include paddling, trail running, mountain biking, basic navigation, mystery challenges and a finish line party. Teams will paddles from Cates Park and then STORM the North Shore with trail running and mountain biking on the wide range of trails.

Teams of 3 will race a course involving hiking, paddling and mountain biking legs on one of three different routes. Finish times could range from anywhere between 3.5 to 6 hours, depending on your team's pace and route selection (either 'Novice', 'Intermediate' or 'Elite') - ranging from under twenty kilometers to well over forty. 'Elite' level competitors will be required to equip themselves with some specialized items, but otherwise, all you need to do is bring your bike and your smiling face to the Start Line and you're ready to STORM the North Shore!

The Fun Stuff

Along the way, teams will be faced with a series of 'mystery tests'. Don't even ask what they are - just know that you'll be doing some pretty cool stuff, and that you just might have to think a little and use some strategy and teamwork! After you've finished STORMing, all the teams will be invited to the post-race awards party immediately after the race at the Finish Line, where there'll be prizes, awards, lots of sponsor-donated prizes, food and drinks, and all the other teams you passed (or who passed you) on the course!

Trail Maintenance/Scholarships

Environmental sustainability through adventure racing? No, it's not an eco-tour, but one of the guiding principles upon which this is event is based is indeed the promotion of environmental stewardship values and responsible outdoor recreation practices in our North Shore wilderness areas. Partial proceeds from this event will go towards trail maintenance and Capilano College Scholarships.

Yes, We Need Volunteers

Not ready for the STORM but keen to help out? Volunteers are the backbone of events like this and we graciously welcome anyone who wants to join the Race Staff team. All volunteers will receive official race crew clothing, as much 'free stuff' as we can possibly give you, as well as our undying thanks! Call our volunteer coordinator at 604-983-6460 or visit our volunteer pages for more info.

Pre-Race Training Clinics

Get your team together and join our pre-race training clinics which will cover every aspect of the race and make sure that you are ready to STORM. You can choose from our free seminars which answer questions, provide a general overview and go over our self-training schedule or our activity specific programs which will have an adventure race professional and/or outdoor guide as the instructor. All fall workshops are tailored towards the STORM the North Shore Adventure Race. More details here.

Race in Costume

Dress up as your favourite super hero, action figure, fun character or whatever suits you and be eligible for a special prize. Remember, it's all about fun!

Corporate Teams

Enter a team from your organization into the STORM's corporate category and if you order shirts we will have them screened with your corporate team name and enter you into our corporate team category (as well as our other categories).
